Item Description This auction is for an 1861 Vintage Mitchell's Map of the Sister States of Iowa and Missouri. It is a classic example of why these great Mitchell's maps are so prized. We are using two scans - t is no break in the map. Everyone loves the look and 'feel' of these great Mitchell's maps. This map is validated at the bottom with "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1861 by S. Augustus Mitchell in the Clerk's Office of the District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania." We're using multiple scans of this over-sized map - t is no separation of the map. This map has superb, pastel colors and crisp printing - a great example of hand-colored pastels from the 19th century. No scans can really do these colors justice. We would not believe that it is almost 1 1/2 Centuries Young had we not personally removed it from its Atlas - see below. An excellent example of a treasured old map. No rips or tears. No appreciable foxing or age toning, some marginal soiling but nothing serious to detract from the map image. Whatever foxing t is merely ads to the map's charm and validates its age. The image size is approximately 11 ½" x 14" and wide and clean margins make it an excellent candidate for framing. The p astel colors are nicely balanced, and the printing is clean, very detailed and consistent. The p aper is both pliant and clean. This map was re moved from "Mitchell's New General Atlas, Published by S. Augustus Mitchell, Philadelphia, 1861."
