1928 Irish Two Shillings 2/- in Good Extra Fine Condition This auction is for a 1928 Irish florin, two shillings, or simply two bob as we used to call them, which features an Atlantic salmon and flórín on the reverse, and a Harp, Saorstát Eireann and date on the obverse. They are relatively large coins - nearly the size of an American half dollar. There were only 2,025,000 Irish florins issued in 1928 - a small figure for a population of around 3 million at the time. This was also the first year of issue. This one is in Good Extra Fine condition (although the obverse is in almost Uncirculated Condition - with most of its original mint lustre) - so see the photos of the Actual Coin and judge its condition for yourself! The photos were taken without a flash - so the coin is whiter in reality! It is the only one I have available so when it's gone that's it. There will be no second chance offers! Minted in 75% silver, nearly all were taken from circulation in the late 1960s and melted down for their silver content. It is relatively difficult to obtain these silver Irish florins in the better grades as there were few collectors at the time. From 1951 they were minted in copper-nickel but although these non-silver florins were discontinued in 1968, they carried on in circulation until the 1990s side by side with their similar 10p decimal read more
