This is a lovely old engraving titled "Taking a Stag Near Derrycunnihy Cascade (Killarney)." The print dates from the 1840's. It is in excellent condition and shows a hunt at the base of the falls. This was engraved by E.J. Roberts from an original drawing by William Bartlett. William Bartlett was born in Kentish Town, London on 1809. The young Bartlett was apprenticed to John Britton ( 1771-1857). He became one of the foremost illustrators of topography of his generation, travelling not just throughout Britain, but to the Americas in 1839/42. In the 1840's he travelled extensively in the Balkans and Middle East. He died of fever on boad ship returning from his last trip to Israel in 1854. His works are today prized for their beauty, accuracy, and superb composition.
