Real Photo postcard in sepia tone bearing the caption "MAJOR McBRIDE" beneath the image, with C. Neville Cook and Kingstown on either side of the caption. Reverse reads "Real Photo. CURRAN, Publisher, Dublin; Reverse is divided into sections for correspondence and address, with "Printed in Great Britain" in the stamp border. Unused. Major John McBride was one of the few Irish insurrectionists of 1916 with any military experience, having served with the Boer Irish Brigade in their war with the English. His experience had taught him the folly of fighting an open war with the enemy and he was a strong advocate of the guerilla tactics which the Boers had used so successfully against the British, and which the Flying Columns would use in the years to come. McBride was considered by the British to be one of the most dangerous of the rebels. He alone was executed on May 5 th at Kilmainham. An unused card with more than usual handling, still in VF+ condition.
