never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few"- winston churchill 1940. in the bleakest hours of the battle of britian, it was the raf that held the german onslaught at bay, and churchill's words could not have been more accurate. the raf "irvin" offered was the prized possion of an raf airman. this is a pre war version , with a 2 panel front and 2 panel back. with winter just around the corner, perhaps this is the time to consider a really warm, antique, wearable irvin. the early version irvins are different from later models in that they had fewer seams and the shearling was cut slightly shorter. the overall condition of this irvin is very goodthe hides are strong and supple, in a seal coloration. however it has some wartime repairs. t are leather patches on one sleeve, and lleather patches on the back of the shoulders [ chute wear?] . the zippers are of the early dot " made in england" type, and though intact they are no longer functional. the main zipper can be done up about 3/4 of the way because t is a tooth missing. these zippers can be replaced by most reproduction makers. the belts are solid and strong. the inside is in a beige color, and is in great condition, except for the top of the wind flap and the ends of the cuffs w they are worn down. t is no label, but by the measurements below i figure read more
