According to Israel Goverment Coins & Medals Corporation: Twelve sites in Israel have been declared by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites and, so far, four of these have been chosen as the features of the coins in this new series: The White City of Tel Aviv, Masada, Akko, and Tel Sheva, near Beer Sheva. The White City of Tel Aviv with its Bauhaus Architecture was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, in 2003. This style of architecture was developed in Germany in the 1920s and it became popular in Tel Aviv in the 1930s. Today, Tel Aviv has the largest concentration in the world of buildings built in the Bauhaus "International Style" with more than 4,000 buildings built between the years 1931 – 1956. The term International Style was applied to the American form of Bauhaus architecture.
