For sale is an outstanding Modernist still life painting from a Woodstock New York estate summer home of a New York City resident.This painting was acquired at sale of the estate. It features a very well done Modernist Still Life scene of flowers in a vase and what looks like a morning newspaper resting on the table.This painting is signed illegibly on the back. It is painted on an Italian LEONARDESCA Canvas. The writing on the back possibly says "TURIN 57" but we are unsure. The signature looks as if it starts with a B. possibly Buono? Again, we are unsure. There is a pencil inscription on the frame which states " bought on 1959 painted in 1957". The family visited Italy numerous times we were told, as they were wealthy world travelers. It is framed in a simple black designer carved wooden frame.It had been stored away for at least the last 25 years. It could use a tightening of the stretcher.Overall the painting is in good condition. There is age appropriate wear to the oil paint. The artists brush strokes are as vivid and lively today as they were on the day it was painted. This piece was no doubt painted by a well schooled Modernist artist. It is a classic 1950's style painting which I'm sure would have cost the original owner a lot of money back in 1959 when they purchased it.It measures:Frame - 34" x 2
