Italian Pottery Handmade and Hand Painted Salad Plate From Deruta Raffaellesco Deruta This Raffaellesco salad plate is from a small town called Deruta, a place most well-known for their Italian ceramics. This beautiful dinner plate is 8" in diameter and is great for serving salad or a slice of pie or cake. Our shipping is completely guaranteed. The âeoeRaffaellescoâe pattern was inspired by Raphaelâe(tm)s 16th century frescoes in the Vatican palace. It is said that the central motif of this pattern, the dragon, symbolizes a benevolent deity who brought good luck to sailors of the time. The sea creature supposedly rescued sailors trapped in a dead calm by blowing on the trapped shipâe(tm)s sails. Today, it is commonly believed that having a piece of Raffaellesco in your home brings blessings and good luck. The Italian hillside town of Deruta is known throughout the world for its spectacular pottery. For more than six centuries, Deruta craftspeople have produced and exported ceramics.
