Up for auction is a Very Rare, Signed Watercolor Painting. The title of this piece is "Sunday Landscape" and it is a work of James March Phillips. James March Phillips (1913-1981) was born in Fresno, California. He got off to a late start with his Art Career and it wasn't till he was 32 years old when he began to study at Turner Art Center. He had two very well known illustrators in Alfred Owles and Louis Rogers. During the 1940s and 1950s, Phillips produced watercolor and gouache paintings depicting california landscape and seascape subjects. His works were sold at art galleries in Northern California. He is noted for his technique and ability to express his subjects realistically, yet reflect a personal interpretation. He strived to portray his subjects in their true color and form. He often expressed that his greatest challenge as an artist was to recreated nature in true perspective.
