Available for purchase is this Victorian pickle castor manufactured by James Tufts Silver of Boston. The castor is marked James W. Tufts Boston Warranted Quadrupleplate #3399 - the number 30 is hand etched into the bottom as well. The lid is also marked #3399, The castor has an elaborate etched shell and plume pattern over the entire base with a twin set of arched wing supports. The bottom also has a textured pattern. The light wasn't good but the photographs display the patterns on the various pieces. With the exception of the spot where the pickle castor jar sits the silver is tarnished. The castor has no damage other than the tarnishing. The original castor jar is still intact-it is a cranberry colored pickle jar manufactured by Northwood in their Panelled Sprig pattern in 1889. It would be reasonable to assume that this pickle castor also dates from 1889. The only damage to the pickle jar are a couple of tiny flea bites where the top fits into the jar. Please examine the photographs. This is an authentic antique set that are all original and not recent marriages of unrelated items. Shipping to any Continental US address is a flat $16 and includes insurance.
