A military sake cup from Imperial Japan. Lacquered wood cup with Rising Sun badge in thick gold gilt. Inside the badge is written 'Victorious Return Commemorative.' Inscribed on the reverse 'Meiji 28 [1895] July, Ishikawa Prefecture, Kawanami County, Morimoto Village, Gift to the Honorable Soldier [ meiyo gunjin ] Moritoyo Saku.' I have one more lacquered wood cup given to the same soldier on auction now. Diameter: 11.5 cm.No chips or cracks.
