Japanese Handmade Double Pegged Ebony Wood Folded Steel Tanto Sword Razor Sharp Description The Tanto first made its appreance around the 8th century during the Heian Period. These first Tantos were almost always used as functional weapons and as a result did not have much have much artistic quality. Another result of the their functional use was that not many survived from this period. It was during this time, and the years up until the 16th century, that the Tanto was worn with the Tachi as the Daisho of the Samurai. Women would also sometimes wear a smaller version of the Tanto in their Obi for self defence. This is a Shirasaya Tanto inspired by the ornate Tantos of the Late Edo period. The Tanto has been authentically forged with meticulous attention to detail. The 1060 Carbon Steel has been folded 13 times and created 8192 layers. High quality and extremely durable black ebony wood. All the fittings and materials used in the Tantos construction are genuine materials. The Tanto is full tang, secured by two bamboo mekugi pins and comes razor sharp. The handle features a double pegged design, and a slightly narrow grip for comfort and durability. The sharpened blade is fully functional and capable of test cutting. The blade features a Bo-Hi (groove) for better balance. The Kissaki is medium with a well defined Yokote. Handmade read more
