SUPERB and UNUSUAL DESIGN Antique Late 19th - Early 20th C. JAPANESE IMARI Blue & White Hand-Painted Porcelain Bowl. We are offering a wonderful find for the collector of unusual Japanese porcelain! This extraordinary piece is hard to describe because words and pictures don't do it justice. The complex hand-painted design, the cobalt and white colors with a touch of green, and the softly lobed shape all combine to give a mystical, almost etal, quality to the bowl. Clearly, t is some story being told having to do with the dual serpents hovering above the flora below. By weight, this is substantial at just over 2 pounds, but the unique artistry lends it a delicacy not found in more commercial modern pieces often seen for sale. The transparently glazed bowl has a softly sloping lip that follows the lobed shaping, and a short raised foot. The base is recessed and only glazed in the center circular area. It is 9" diameter at the top rim edge, 4 & 3/8" diameter bottom base, and 3 & 1/8" high. No cracks, chips or dings, no restoration. This bowl shows overall usage and age, the glaze on the inside is uniformly worn; it was obviously not a protected cabinet/display piece, but any marks seen in the photos are color and glazing irregularities, scratches, and general wear - NOT damages. All of the pictures were taken in natural light; under read more
