Description: From the forward of the catalog: It is with great pleasure that I introduce our latest exhibition catalogue of Netsuke and Inro from European Collections. During the past few years, it has become increasingly difficult to acquire established collections substantial enough to warrant single exhibitions. Most collectors at present are actively purchasing, and the number of new collectors is testament to the increasing popularity of this area of Japanese art. Thus, for this exercise, I have had to wrestle free a number of smaller collections, and 'raid' others. As a departure from the usual format of categorising the netsuke and Inro into chronological order, or area of carving, I have arranged the pieces within the various collectors' groupings.
