RARE JAPANESE STERLING SILVER FIGURES IN GARDEN SCENE SERVING TRAY; JAPANESE COUPLE WITH ATTENDANT, DOG, EXOTIC TREE AND FOLIAGE; GORHAM JAPANESQUE We are quite pleased to offer this important 1917 Gorham serving tray, in the Japanesque manner. Gorham Japanese and Persian designs are some of the mst coveted of all. Circular form. Elegant sylized leaf and rolling vine engraved to stepped rim. Centre with beautifully carved scene of couple in Japanese garden. The man with short robe, sash and bamboo walking stick. In the Western manner. His lady friend in long, tradional robe and double sash, hair pulled back, holding a fan. Burly attendant holds tall bamboo handle parasol overhead. Small dog underfoot. Garden urn on pedestal, with tall prunus growing. One bird perched second nearing a landing. Elaborate pagoda, cobblestone wall and dwelling in the distance. A plaque with stylized Japanes characters to left centre. Never monogrammed. This Japanesque serving tray is 14 inches. Thick, heavy guage sterling weighs 29 1/2 (standard) ounces. Hallmarked as shown. In very fine condition. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. The beautifully carved Japanese garden scene retains its original crisp, sharp hand chased detail.
