Description This is a Japanese lacquer Urushi makie Koudaiji makie Natsume (Tea caddy). This is one of the famous design makie which is called "KOUDAIJI makie(高台寺蒔絵)." Many Japanese SADO lovers have Koudaiji makie style. This natsume start from only $39.99 !! about KOUDAIJI makie (高台寺蒔絵)・・・ To pray for the happiness of HIDEYOSHI TOYOTOMI (豊臣秀吉)who had been ruling Japan (1590 thru 1598) when postmortem, the temple of Kodai-ji Temple(高台寺) was built by his wife "KITANO MANDOKORO(北政所)." Kodaiji was located in Higashiyama-KYOTO. The lacqering things that Kodai-ji Temple owns are generically called KOUDAIJI MAKIE(高台寺蒔絵). The most typical design in KOUDAIJI MAKIE is kikukiri lacqering(菊桐蒔絵). kiku(菊) is chrysanthemum and kiri(桐)is paulownia. This tea caddy is exactly kikukiri lacqering (菊桐蒔絵) design natsume. This Kikukiri Makie design using real gold and various color in makie fashion. Also, Japanese traditional lacquer,Urushi, set off the contrast of colors. craftman`s name is unknown but base material is wood and details makie works.
