Japanese Woodblock Print – Kogyo – Dated 1898 Gold & Silver Pigments – Poetic Passage – LOW RES!!! Auctioning this week are some rare and fine prints by Kogyo. Many prints by this artist are small and rather simplistic in design however those I am auctioning this week are full oban size, intricately detailed and contain uncommonly used pigments. These are indeed some of Kogyo’s best works. All it will take is for someone to publish a catalogue raisonné of his works and prices will increase dramatically. Here we have a print from the NO GAKU ZU E or pictures of the Noh theatre series. There were 5 characters in this play who are listed at the right. The passage to the right that explains how the actor is chasing shadows all the way to a mountain from which he is captivated by the sight of the moon. The interlocking triangles in the actors robe is done with a gradation of blue pigment with alternating silver to create a mirror-like affect. The work was published by MATSUMOTO HEIKICHI and measures 14 3/8 long by 9 5/8 wide. Should there be any questions please do not hesitate to ask prior to bidding. Please take a look at my other auctions. I should be listing about 50 items over the next few weeks at very attractive prices. View my feedback and . Thank you.
