This is a Japanese WW II Army officer`s sword in 98 mountings. The blade is signed "Bishu ju Kuniyasu 尾州住国泰", shinogi-zukuri shape, no arsenal stamp on the tang. Kuniyasu was a gendai sword smith, the blade is hand forged and water temper blade. The blade is in WWll time old polish, shows light stains, fine scratches on surface but no rust and in good condition. The temper line is wavy gunome temper pattern throughout the blade and has komaru temper at the point. The forging grain is tight itame-hada and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend, no nicks, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is heavy metal scabbard, reracquered, no dent, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, menuki and tsuka-ito wrapping are missing but good condition. The tsuba and seppa are matched number 15 marked. The lock mechanism works perfect. The blade measures 26 1/4" tip to the guard, 25 1/4" cutting edge , 1+3/16" width, 7mm thickness at the notch and 38" in the mountings.
