This is a Japanese WWll Army officer's sword in civilian mountings. The blade is signed "Noshu Seki ju Fukuda Kanetsugu 濃州関住福田兼次", shinogi-zukuri shape, 昭 arsenal inspection stamp on the tang, WWll time period made blade. Kanetsugu lived in Seki city, Gifu prefecture, made swords during WWll time period. The blade is in old polish, shows light scratches on surface but no rust, no nick, no bend, no forging flaws, no crack temper and cutting edge is sharp. The temper line is wavy gunome temper throughout the blade and has o-maru temper at the point. It is mounted in civilian mountings, the scabbard is relacquered wood scabbard, no bend, no crack and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no loose, no cut and in good condition. The tsuba is mordern made cast iron tsuba with nice patina. It measures 26+5/8" tip to guard, 25+3/4" cutting edge, 1+3/16" width, 7mm thickness at the notch and 37+3/4" in mountings. It is good for cutting or iai practice sword.
