~ Vintage ~ NOTE: Last summer I attended a Wisconsin estate auction of the most artistic lady. One of the "arts" that she practiced was the 1970s era craft of decorating genuine egg shells. The eggs ranged in size from small songbird eggs to huge ostrich eggs, but she mostly used goose eggs. Here is one of her creations .... This lovely vintage genuine egg opens up to reveal a "songbird egg". It is decorated with "rhinestones", foiled paper and gilt ornaments. Of course the "gems" are from dismantled costume jewelry .... but it still makes a dramatic presence! The egg measures 7.5" high by 2.5 " wide , which includes the 3.5" tall base. (My guess is that it is a goose egg, based upon size.) The details on this egg are wonderful. The multi-hinged back opens up to reveal a small songbird egg inside. This is such a lovely item ..... it is a rare treat for the collector of eggs! This is a vintage one-of-a-kind piece. The egg is not damaged or cracked. There are a few tiny pearls missing.
