Talk to anyone that reads Locke & Key and they will undoubtedly rate it as one of the best books on the stands. Few writers are ever capable of crafting a story as rich and compelling as this one, yet Joe Hill is managing to pull it off in his first try. The third issue of the Crown of Shadows arc progresses the main storyline while also capturing the great character moments that make this book such a fantastic read. It's got everything that fans have grown to love about the series, myself included.One of the strong points of Gabriel Rodriguez's artwork has always been his intricate shadow work. In this issue it finally takes center stage as Dodge takes possession of the Crown of Shadows and we learn the power that it contains. As the shadows within the house began to take shape, I found myself mesmerized at just how subtle Rodriguez integrated them into the first section of the book. I always love it when a comic has me backtracking through it in order to find Easter eggs, so this issue had me jumping for joy. And using grey tones to give the shadows shape and emotion is a fantastic use of the medium and credit should be given to colorist Jay Fotos for elevating the artwork to such a high
