Double your traffic. John Deere 520 John Deere was born in Rutland, Vermont, February 7, 1804. In 1825, he began his work as a blacksmith; however, in the mid-1830's, business in VT became depressed, and he headed for the midwest. Settling in Grand Detour, IL he established a booming blacksmith business. Plowing there was a slow and laborious task due to the rich soil (they had come from sandy, loose soil out east where their cast iron plows were efficient). Many pioneers in the midwest were discouraged and were considering moving on or heading back east. John Deere studied the problem and became convinced that a plow with a highly polished and properly shaped moldboard and share ought to scour itself as it turned the furrow slice. He fashioned such a plow in 1837, using the steel from a broken saw blade. Deere's steel plow proved to be the answer pioneer farmers needed for successful farming in what was then "the West." But his contribution to the growth of American agriculture far exceeded just the development of a successful steel plow in 1837. Since that time, Deere & Company has grown from a one-man blacksmith shop into a corporation that today does business around the world and employs approximately 47,000 people. It is one of the oldest industrial companies in the United States. With a Narrow Front. Very highly detailed! read more
