John F. Kennedy: Associated Press Assassination Teletypes. During the crisis of a political assassination, the public need for immediate information is a constant. During the confusion, some of that information is contradictory or inaccurate. On November 22, 1963, newsrooms across the country received an outpouring of Associated Press teletypes which relayed details as soon as they became known. This lot contains four such bulletins, retrieved from an ABC affiliate, Channel 17, in Bakersfield, California: (1) An 8.25" x 25" sheet headlined "President Kennedy is Dead. He died in a hospital after being cut down by an assassin's bullet while his motorcade was moving along the outskirts of Dallas. There was a report that Vice-President Johnson had also been wounded, but this was denied by Mrs. Johnson... [Senator Yarborough] added: 'It seemed to me that at least two shots came from our right rear. I can not say about the third...
