GRANBY, John Manners, Marquis. Autograph Letter Signed ‘Granby’, to the Earl of Halifax, transmitting a report about John Urings, “sole owner of the Ship Polly impressed into His Majesty’s Service at Louisbourg by Genl. Whitmore to carry Stores to Quebec”. A good one page example, 9 x 7 inches. Scarborough, 28 September 1764. John Manners (1721-1770), Marquis of Granby, served in Cumberland’s army against the Young Pretender. He became the commander in chief of the British contingent in Germany during the Seven Years’ War (from 1759); commander in chief of the forces, 1766.
