This is a glazed earthenware figure of a deer, by John Skeaping for Wedgwood, circa 1940's. Mounted on an ebonised wooden plinth, this is a very striking piece. Impressed marks to the earthenware base : J SKEAPING/WEDGWOOD. Dimensions (including wooden plinth) : 22 x 21 x 10cms. Condition : There are three hairlines to the earthenware base, although these are not visible when viewing the figure in front profile. Otherwise the figure itself is very good indeed. There is a considerable amount of rubbing and some marking to the wooden plinth, but this could be easily addressed. Overall, a very good example of a scarce Skeaping figure.
