'S JOHNNY! The Tonight Show starring JOHNNY CARSON Johnny's coffee mug from The Tonight Show and autograph obtained on May 16, 1990 Offered for auction is this rare prop from The Tonight Show and an original Johnny Carson autograph on a 3x5 white index card. I attended the taping of The Tonight Show as an invited guest, watching from backstage and in the green room several times before the King of Late Night retired in 1992. During my visits I was in awe of how The Tonight Show ran like a well oiled machine. Johnny always arrived hours before show time and remained in his dressing room until his curtain call while Ed, Doc, the band members, Fred and the crew were milling about. It was such a thrill to be standing behind that multi colored curtain just a few feet away from Johnny as he was ready to spring into action. It was pure joy to see the master at work, live and in person. After the taping Johnny immediately went back to his dressing room so I waited around hoping to meet Johnny and I met a very nice NBC prop man and when I asked about obtaining a souviner he gave me Johnny's mug directly after the show. I finally got to meet Johnny as he was about to leave the studio and he was most gracious and signed several autographs.
