This medium large, lovely girl with a fan is “Bess” from the “First Formal” Series. She is pictured on page 62 in the pink book, “Josef Originals, Charming Figurines”. The First Formal girls are rare and hard to find, especially in such nice condition as this one is. I have three of the First Formal girls up for sale. This auction is for Bess only, but I’ve included a picture of all three of them so you can see how pretty they look all together. I am very happy to combine shipping if you win more than one of them. Bess is wearing a beautiful aqua, full-skirted dress that is lighter in color at the top and gets darker towards the bottom of the skirt. The dress has a large, darker aqua bow at the back with ribbons that trail down the back of her dress. She is holding a pink fan in her right hand. There is a lot of shiny, 22 Kt. gold gilt on this figurine. Bess has a large, shiny gold bow in her hair with a pink flower on it with a gold center. Her dress has shiny gold “lace” sponging all around the bottom. Her fan has shiny gold “lace” sponging and gold ribs. Her neckline, shoulder straps and waist are outlined in shiny gold, as is the large bow on the back of her dress. All this gold gilt on her makes her glitter and sparkle! Bess has dark blonde to strawberry blonde hair that is piled atop her head in an up-do and soft curls frame her face. Her face is expertly hand-painted with rosy cheeks, black eyes & eyelashes, delicate eyebrows and cherry red lips. She is very graceful and lovely! Bess is in excellent, mint to near mint condition with no damage at all. She has her oval, black & gold “Josef Originals” sticker on the side in excellent condition and “Josef Originals C” is clearly inscribed in the clay on the bottom of the piece. Bess is approximately 5 ¼” tall and 4 ¼” wide and has a glossy glaze. Her colors are rich and vibrant and the glaze and gold gilt is shiny and bright. She is a very beautiful Josef Original piece! Most all of my items are vintage, which means they have been pre-owned and many are quite old. My home is smoke-free, but I cannot say where the items have been before I got them. I try to accurately describe any flaws I see, but I am human and may miss something, so please enlarge my photos and look closely at them.
