JOSH SIMPSON Handcrafted Art Glass Paperweight - Signed & Dated 1987 One of the great joys of Granny’s life has always been the beauty and wonder of an exquisitely made piece of glass - the play of light on and through the object, the smoothness of its surface, the simultaneous strength & delicacy inherent in the medium, the detail & craftsmanship of a well-made piece. The amazing work of artisan glassmaker Josh Simpson is a perfect example of all of that. This auction features a handmade paperweight from his “Planets” collection, full of swirling yellows, pinks & whites and shot through with veins of blue & black, calling to mind the tumultuous beauty of a newly born planet seeking its final form in the cosmos. At least, that’s what Granny sees -- I’m sure you’ll find your own wonder when you experience this awesome artwork for yourself. The paperweight is signed on the bottom with the artist’s bold signature and is dated 1987. It is also engraved “C5-4”, which I believe is the item number for this particular piece. It measures about 3 inches [7.6 cm] in diameter with a circumference of about 10¼ inches [6.7 cm]. I see no damage on the item whatsoever beyond the usual minor wear that one would expect on the bottom of the piece from years of sitting on a desktop.
