HARDCOVER JUBILEE by MARGARET WALKER Not only is this copy signed by Margaret Walker, it is inscribed to Virginia and E.A. Jones. Virginia Jones (1912-1984) received her PhD in library science from the University of Chicago and was well respected nationally for her professional contributions to library science. E.A. Jones (1903-1981)was a noted African scholar, linguist and diplomat. The historical novel tells the story of a mulatto girl during and after the Civil War which is modeled after Walker’s great grandmother, Vyry, whose photo appears with Walker on the back jacket cover. Stated 1 st . Boston MA; Houghton Mifflin; 1966; 8vo - over 7 3/4" - 9 3/4" tall; green cloth with turquoise lettering and map on end papers. Original price intact on dust jacket flap. Stated 1 st printing. Sm pieces of scotch tap on inside flap for no reason as flap is not torn. Jacket spine ends are chipped. Book itself has aged spine and lightly rubbed corners. Very light and sm stain marks on top edge. One cracked hinge inside otherwise square and tight. Other than inscription, no writing or marks.
