If you are the winner of this auction you will be the proud owner of the most worn example of this rare Roman Republic gold aureus known to exist. It has been examined by several ancient numismatic experts and been deemed to be genuine. You can go to Wildwinds to see better examples. A very well-known expert and author on Roman Republic coins commented on this coin- “ That identification deserves a prize. It appears that's exactly what it is. I'd bet MM HS that it's the most-worn known aureus of Aulus Hirtius. Everything is right about it including the bump in the middle of the reverse , and the small gap between the neck and drapery… It is 100% certain.” Also note the row of dots above and to the right of the bust.
