'The Jungle Book' by Rudyard Kipling. Published 1896... 1stedition, 5th Impression. London: Macmillan, 1896. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good/Very Good. 5th Impression. Macmillan and Co., London and New York, 1896. Hardcover. Stated First Edition, 5th Printing (1896). Blue boards with gilt elephants on the cover with gilt top and bottom border, a gilt title and a snake decoration on the spine and gilt edges. Illustration by J. L. Kipling. W. H. Drake and P. Frenzeny The binding is firm with just one split and the hinges are intact. The text is in Very Good condition with no writing, underlining or foxing. There is a two line inscription on the free endpaper and the date of May 29th, 1896. The tissue is intact on the frontispiece, with only the slightest foxing. There is slight bumping on the corners and some wear on the top and bottom edges of the spine, and some fading. Front and back covers are clean and tidy. Overall, a nice early example of this classic. A great opportunity to add an early edition to your collection!
