This is a German trench dagger-K 55 K, Mercator 4 inch blade. Heinrich Kaufmann trade name.I took the following from Fredrick Stephens, Fighting Knives Book, page 33."Popular utility knife amongst German Troops during the great war. Having the faculity of a lock back blade, the application of the knife as a fighting weapon was not overlooked. 123 & 124 (illustrations) are trade marked Mercator, a trade name of the Heinrick Kaufmann Company.
