#748 Blue Heriz Pattern from The Original Karastan Collection . Since 1928, the renowned 700 Series has established Karastan's reputation as maker of the world's finest power-loomed Oriental-design rugs. Each is crafted of 100% worsted wool pile yarns, woven through the back, skein-dyed and lustre washed for the closest possible reproduction of the original design. Every pattern is carefully recreated from Persian, Turkomen, Chinese, and other hand-woven originals, including prized museum pieces and antiques. Heriz is the largest and most important village near the ancient city of Tabriz in Persia. The best rugs are woven in this area. This is the classic Heriz pattern featuring stylized floral and scroll motifs in angular lines for a handsome geometric effect. The weavers of Heriz were unable to weave curves and created the Heriz design by weaving instead straight vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines. The Blue Heriz pattern features a central medallion in vaying blue hues and four corner medallions with rust, blue, and tan tones on an ivory ground framed by a blue border with geometric motifs and single guards. Karastan stylists use 12 individual colors to reproduce the antiqued and uneven dyeing pattern of a handwoven oriental rug. This rug is 8 ft. 8 in. x 12 ft.
