This is a rare set of ELEPHANT BOOK ENDS/ROCKS made by the KATHODION BRONZE WORKS circa early 1910's. Bronze with a rich patina. They are inscribed KBW ART BRONZ on the bases. Measurements are 5 1/4" in height x 6 1/2" in length x 3 1/4" in width. They weigh about 6 Ibs for the pair. KATHODION BRONZE WORKS under the direction of Eurgene F. Aucaigne formerly a partner of the Henry Bonnard Bronze Company was incorporated in the state of New York in 1909. They began an aggressive ad campaign for their Book Rocks in catalogs as early as 1910. During their 8 year existence they employed a stable of sculptors to produce some of the finest bronze clad bookends that are among the oldest and most collectable today. These elephants are pictured in several advertisements including the 1914 New York Times ad as SMALL ELEPHANT ITEM 562. These are very rare and over 100 years old in EXCELLENT CONDITION. Please ask questions and look at pictures. Thanks
