It was and still is a very interesting, unique DIGITAL synthesizer as it is capable of performing some really serious additive synthesis. Basically, with additive synthesis, each sound is made up of multiple harmonics or sine waves, combining together to create a much more complex sound. The Kawai allows control over the levels of individual and also groups of harmonics and, using the 4 onboard harmonic generator envelopes, allows you to shape the timbre (tonal quality) of the sound over time to create some very interesting and evolving results. There's also a nice digital filter and an additional Digital Formant Filter, which acts as an 11 band graphic EQ and allows additional control over the K5 tone. Few synthesizers offer this much control over sound. Plus, in multi mode, you can use up to 15 separate sounds AT ONCE which can be controlled on different MIDI channels via a sequencer! The results are amazing! We won't spend any more time describing the features - all this info is readily available on the web. This is an excellent addition to any serious synthesists arsenal!
