Impressionist oil oncanvas of a Mystic, Connecticut farm and valley by listed Connecticut artist Kenneth Bates (1895-1973). Bates studied at the Art Students League (1914) and later at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art with impressionist Daniel Garber and Hugh Breckenridge. Bates won the Cresson Scholarship at PAFA enabling him to travel and work in Europe with fellow students Arthur Meltzer and Alfred Mitchell. Bates exhibited widely during his career, including exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, National Academy of Design, New Haven Paint and Clay Club, Corcoran Gallery, and many others. Bates was a full academician at the National Academy of Design and a member of the Mystic Art Association, Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, and New Haven Paint & Clay Club. Bates work is in numerous public and private collections. This attributed lovely piece is unframed and unsigned. Measures 20 x 24".
