This is a wonderful mounted lithographic print taken from the original 1913 promotional poster design for the South Eastern & Chatham Railway, promoting its services to the Kent Coast holiday destinations. The illustration was by Graham Phillips. The print was produced commercially by TSO Co., Ltd., Norwich in 1990. Few sights can conjure up the nostalgia of a bygone age than the evocative railway posters from the golden age of rail travel. The posters often presented a bold, colourful picture of Britain at it most stunning. Designed primarily to promote rail travel to major tourist centres, they combined the fantasy and reality of the destination. The posters offered an escapist paradise, where uncrowded beaches and glorious weather were just a train ride away. At the same time, they created a social commentary on the age, where classic cars and daring new fashions intermingled with mighty steam trains. These posters captured the spirit of the great days of rail which are now, sadly, just a distant memory. This mounted print is approx 12" x 9" (30.5 x 22.8cm, with the image size approx 22.5 x 14cm) and will fit into a standard sized frame of your choice. It is in pristine condition with no rips tears or creases. It is further protected by a thick rear mounting board. Please do not confuse this print with a cheap home produced/scanned read more
