You are bidding on one Ceremonial Key to the City. City of New Orleans, Louisiana. This key measures a little over 1 inch long by a little over 1/2 inch wide. This key is made of some sought of metal. This is a tiny key. I suppose you could put it on a chain if you wanted to display it. I am also selling a duplicate key in another auction. I winded up with two of these keys. This key needs to be cleaned. On the front of this key reads: City of New Orleans. T are no other names on this key. This item does not come with a box. Presenting keys to the city date back to when cities were gated. A key was presented to allow passage. Today keys are given as a ceremonial key to dignitaries and famous/special people as a way of letting them know that they are welcome. I found this key in an antique store. I also found a few more so please look at my other auctions. Some of the keys had mayors on them which I looked up so that I could date these items. The items dated from the late fifties to the early seventies. I have keys that were presented to Irving Fein who was the producer of the Jack Benny show. Irving Fein was also the executive producer and president of J&M Productions. He was the manager and a good friend of George Burns and Jack Benny.
