This toy gun is not a firearm as classified with U.S. Code Title 18, section 921 by Federal law. Offered here for Buy it now a vintage cast iron Kilgore American cap gun... It needs completion of cleaning and repairs to make it suitable for display or it can be used for it's parts in another American. Both sides of the frame and the right side barrel have had a pretty thorough going over; with most of the rust being removed. These areas cleaned up nicely and look pretty good now. If this is to be displayed; the left side barrel and cylinder are still in need of having the rust cleaned off and then be polished up. Also; the trigger guard has a small amount of black paint remaining on it. This needs to be cleaned off. This has had 2 repairs I need to make you aware of. One repair is to the right side barrel pivot; where these cap guns always break. The repair seems to be working pretty good. The second repair (see photo) is to the right side frame where the pivot screw passes through it. I imagine this little ear got broke when someone who didn't know better; over tightened the screw in an attempt to get the play out of the joint after the barrel pivot piece broke. I don't know how strong or weak this frame repair is and it should be handled with care... For that reason; I can not guarantee it's integrity... I recommend the screw only be lightly seated, also avoid any over stressing of the area and refrain from firing the cap gun if it is reassembled for display purposes. You can eliminate the issue with the frame repair with a good replacement right side frame. This American is missing the front red sight insert and the original grips have been replaced with reproduction grips. I think I have all or most of the internal parts. I'm not 100% certain these springs are the correct ones. If they are not; the set is easily attainable and relatively cheap. The front sight, hammer, trigger and other major internal parts, plus, sometimes, even the cylinder can all be found for these Americans at ... This could be put back in full working order * if * you have access to an unbroken right side frame. Otherwise I only recommend completing the cleaning/polishing to use the American for display, or use the good parts it still has in/on it to repair a better American. That's about everything I can think of to mention about this old Kilgore American... If I have overlooked anything, rest assured it is due to oversight and an aging memory.
