Kirk & Son Sterling Silver Repousse Vegetable Serving Bowl Platter.Samuel Kirk and Son, Baltimore's premier silverware manufacturing firm was founded in 1815 by Samuel Kirk after he finished his apprenticeship under James Howell in Philidelphia. Samuel relocated to Baltimore and began a partnership with John Smith. The partnership was dissolved in 1821 and in 1846 Kirk's eldest son Henry Child Kirk became a partner. During this time Samuel Kirk introduced Repousse to America. His work was probably influenced by East Indian silversmiths but his designs are distinctly his own. Eventually his technique was applied to flatwear as well as other pieces.This bowl is similar to the tray also listed this morning. The flowers are different and it weighs more. The piece is in excellent condition with no dents or scratches. T are roses, leaves and a mixture of flowers. The bowl is 11" long, 8" wide and is 2" tall. It weighs 420 grams.The bottom is marked with S. KIRK & SON Sterling 67 and it is engraved with the numbers 1327 to the right of the 67.T is no monogram.
