An amazing pictures from early Japan. A rare book of a remarkable culture in art. Book is wrapped in rice paper and has a protective wood-box made out of bamboo-wood. These color and black and white prints are pictures of art depicting the original Japanese life, mirroring the life of the people. Stylized genre scenes of domestic life of the women, courtesans, actors, love scenes, boats, and animals. Chiefly 18th and 19th centuries as color print, but genre and block prints go back into 17th century. No exhibitionism or affectation. Note elegance of conventions of face, with slit eyes and petal mouth. Book is in lightly used but excellent condition. Book measures 10 1/2" x 7 1/2". RARE, educational and valuable.
