The Gas Bird is a 48 inch wingspan free flight model airplane designed by Carl Goldberg in 1938. It has 386 square inches of wing area. It's a very competitive Class B old timer free flight model and will easily handle a Forster .290 or similar engine. Some people call the model the "Diamond Zipper", because its wing and tail are very much like Carl's famous "Zipper" model. The difference is that the Gas Bird has a diamond fuselage rather than the rounded oval fuselage on the Zipper. As always Harry Klarich cuts a beautiful short kit. The ribs and other curved parts are cut out on a band saw and sanded smooth. There's no "laser burn" to worry about in a Klarich kit. Harry includes a plan and a wire landing gear. Strip wood, covering material, wheels and engine and such are up to the builder. It's a good design--and a good kit. If you are a builder looking for your next old time model building project, this one is for you. These old birds are also easily converted to radio control and to electric power. They make great radio control primary trainers because they are inherently stable.
