LOT # 159 Detailed Photos Estate Road Show L159 ANTIQUE 3 SECTION MACEY BARRISTER BOOKCASE MODEL 713 Item Description We are pleased to offer this Antique c. 1910 three section Barrister Bookcase made by Macey. Some age related wear, still displays well. Macey bookcases have an interesting history. Otto Wernicke of Grand Rapids patented the original elastic bookcase around 1892 and produced them in his own plant under the Wernicke name until around 1902. That's when he formed a partnership with Globe in Cincinnati and bookcases using his patent were produced under the Globe-Wernicke label. However, Wernicke was not happy with arrangement so he went back to Grand Rapids and purchased the factory owned by Fred Macey in 1905 calling it the Macey-Wernicke Co which was shortened to just Macey in 1907. So Macey bookcases were actually made by Otto Wernicke who started it all in 1892.
