Prior to the United States ’ entry into the World War I, thirty-eight American volunteer pilots flew and fought for France against the air Squadrons of Germany. This is the story of the Lafayette Escadrille pilots and their world famous squadron seen through rare original photographs. It covers the pilots’ pre-aviation service with the French Foreign Legion and as ambulance drivers in the American Ambulance Service. It follows the Squadron's 38 American Pilots and their 5 French officers until the time of their death either during the World War, or after their war service. The founding members were William Thaw, Kiffin Rockwell, James McConnell, Victor Chapman, Norman Prince, Elliot Cowdin, and Bert Hall. There are also biographies covering the service and life of American Ace Raoul Lufbery, and pilot James Norman Hall, who later went on to author "Mutiny On The Bounty." The book will be shipped free.
