Japanese Fairy Tale No. 25 by Lafcadio HearnChin Chin KobakamaThis is a rare Japanese Fairy Tale. ( This book, without the No. 25 designation, was issued as a part of the five book set of Lafcadio Hearn translated books.) The book is crepe paper, hand colored with Japanese wood blocks and is in good condition. I have taken pictures so that you can see exactly the condition of the book. If you are a Hearn collector, you will realize that it is difficult to know exactly when the fairy tale books were printed as there are many variations but I read on the Baxley Stamps site that this was probably produced prior to the box set and probably closer to 1905.The Baxley Stamps website has more complete and detailed information. I would recommend you start there if you want to research this title. While the book is in good condition for its age, the crepe paper had some creases and dings which I tried to capture in pictures. The silk (?) ties or string used for binding are intact. There is a small amount of staining on the front cover which looks rust colored. (Pictured) There are no tears. Just some crease like indentations. This is an early example of this fairytale .Chin Chin Kobakama has 24 pages (12 folded crepe pages). The book measures about 7-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches. The color is good and it is very beautiful.
