Description: Up for sale is this beautiful Berks County Pennsylvania wool on linen sampler wrought by Sarah DeTurc k and dated 1865. The sampler is large measuring 23-1/4 X 21-1/4 inside the frame & 25- 3/4 X 27-3/4 with the frame. The sampler has docume ntation w hich comes from The Histor ical Society of Berks County Museum & Library. It contains a lot of Sarah's family history. There is also a sheet of paper taped to the back, a s show n, which has some of her family history as well. The documen tation paper can be seen slid in-b etween two of the boards on the back of the frame. The frame is a period frame & the documentation sa ys it's original, but the glass is preservation glass & is indicated with a label on the back . The frame is thick & heavy. T he sample r consists of floral decoration, floral baskets, a house, birds & animals. The main colors are red, pink & green, but the sampler also has blue & tan as well as black. I believe Sarah ma de some of her letters backwards . The sampler reads Sarah DeTurck her sampler 1865. The name & date is beautifully framed in a floral wreath . The sampler is very large, so it really captures your attention in a room. Thi s is a rare opportunity to own such a large American sampler complete with provenance. This is a real tr easure! Condition: The frame has some loss to the veneer.
