This is a large imported silver tobacco box, decorated to the lid in high relief with figures dancing, drinking and playing music. The edges of the box are decorated in a rococo style, while the border of the lid has a reeded pattern. It measures 16cm wide, is 6.5cm deep and stands 3.5cm high, weighing an impressive 243g. Inside the box has a light gilt wash. There are original hallmarks that I believe to be Hanau marks to the underside, and also an import mark for London 1893. The importers mark is WM, for William Moering. There is loss to the definition on the lid, and inside the box the lip of the lid is a little deformed, as can be seen. -------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------- ..
