Don't wait too long on this one!! The last one I sold went for twice the buy it now price!Here we have one of the largest pocket surgical kits I have seen... I believe it was probably carried in a saddle bag as it is too large to just pack around in a coat pocket. A RARE FIND IN THIS CONDITION AND STILL HAVE MOST ALL THE INSTRUMENTS! The kit itself is labeled Sharp & Smith Chicago IL. In business from 1844 to around 1900. The Scalpels and one of the forceps are also marked S&S. The rest of the instruments are a mix of suppliers. Sklar, Betz and others. All told there are 15 instruments in this case including 4 scalpels and a suturing tool . PLUS! I found down in a crack of the pocket a paper envelope containing what looks to be old suture thread and also has the company label date when the company was established 1844! And there is some hand written notes on the back. All though this kit does not contain all the original tools it came with, and effort has been made to put the correct replacements into it. It is still a great hard to find item!!! The only damage to the case is the lower snap has pulled out and is missing. There is very little if any cracking or damage to the rest of the pouch but it is a little dry from age. Don't let this great piece of history get away!
