Measures 3 Inches wide AND Stands 1" tall. p> These scientific instruments were designed by a mining engineer in 1894. Combining the elements of the compass, prismatic compass, clinometer, plumb, and hand level, making this unique compass one of the surveyors most trusted tools. Our accurate reproduction features two sights with peepholes. You can either sight through a clear window in the lid or lay the lid open to a flat position and use the second hinged sight. The inside cover has a mirror with a vertical line imprinted. The perimeter of the face has a compass rose and the interior of the compass rose has two spirit levels and a adjustable scale for use as a pocket transit. On the outside of the case t is a screw that turns a gear which in turn rotates the compass rose to adjust for the local magnetic declination angle, which is the difference between magnetic and true north.
