It is holding a gold coin that translates to read "Ten Million Ryo" w Ryo is an old Japanese gold monetary unit. It is quite heavy for its size showing that it was heavily potted with clay before firing. The condition is very good throughout and it would make either a great present for that special sushi chef or Japanese restaurant owner to use and display or for use in ones own shop or store front.
